Time slipped through our hands and this website has taken to the backburner. Even without promoting the site, however, there has been some interest as people subscribed after Lianne’s guest post on Intentional Travelers about CouchSurfing.

So, let’s start with a recap!

In early March, we departed ways (temporarily) after the 10-day Vipassana meditation course. Adam visited his family in San Diego while Lianne hopped over to Bangkok to squeeze an extra week of travel while doing a help exchange at her now-favorite hostel. She then went back to see friends in Chicago and Atlanta before spending some much-needed time with her family in New Jersey.

Going back to the U.S. for the first time in years was shocking. Space. So much space. Houses we once thought were modest became ginormous. Walking to grab a bite became impossible; cars are necessary to get around and a few bucks can’t get you much. Being able to communicate easily was comforting, but unable to NOT listen to other conversations was overwhelming. Trips to the grocery store were also intense... yet magical. Some of the foods we missed were readily available, but we were inundated with an abundance of decisions to make. How many brands of cereal really need to exist?

But overall, going home was a nice way to reflect, put things into perspective, and most importantly, to catch up with our families.

Since April, Adam has been in the Pacific Northwest and BC, Canada, participating in an intense course with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). The first month consisted of sea kayaking around Vancouver Island and the second, a glacial mountaineering expedition in the Cascades. He’s been without Internet and technology in general, for two months only taking photos with a wedding table disposable film camera. When we talked briefly, he described the course as having been physically demanding, but exceptionally rewarding.

Lianne started a new job in Nagoya, Japan, where she’s teaching English ats a small private university. Teaching six classes and an extra English challenge class in conjunction with a 40-minute commute keeps her weekdays busy, but she adores the students and finds the job fulfilling. The weekends have been spent attending various festivals, meet-ups, and going hiking!

What’s next?

Lianne’s contract is only for one semester, so she will meet Adam in Tokyo in July and stay there for a month with a “funderful” couple and their ridiculously cute baby. Couldn’t be more excited to finally go to the Ghibli museum and maybe hike Mt. Fuji! We will be moving onto another adventure shortly after. Stay tuned!
